WANG Guoquan
was designated as Chairman on 1 January 2024 and was appointed as NED of the Company on 11 March 2021. Mr. Wang is currently the Vice President of CITIC Group Corporation*, and concurrently serves as the Vice President of CITIC Limited* (listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange), CITIC Corporation Limited* and the non-executive director of CITIC Telecom International Holdings Limited (listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange). Mr. Wang obtained an executive Master degree of business administration (EMBA) from Business School, Renmin University of China. Mr. Wang had successively served as the Deputy General Manager and the General Manager of China Telecom Hebei branch and the General Manager of the marketing department of China Telecommunications Corporation. He became the Vice President of China Telecommunications Corporation since December 2018. Then, he was the Executive Vice President of China Telecom Corporation Limited (listed on Hong Kong Stock Exchange)(China Telecom) from March 2019 and an Executive Director of China Telecom from August 2019, both until December 2020. From May 2017 to August 2019, he was a Director of Besttone Holding Co., Ltd. (listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange). Mr. Wang has extensive experience in management and the telecommunications industry.
*CITIC Group Corporation is the holding company of CITIC Limited, which in turn is the holding company of CITIC Corporation Limited.
Wayne BANNON
was designated as Deputy Chairman on 1 January 2024 and was appointed as NED of the Company on 17 May 2022. Mr. Bannon is a Managing Director and the General Counsel, Asia of Carlyle. Mr. Bannon is responsible for legal, regulatory and compliance matters for Carlyle’s investment platform across Asia, a role he has held since joining Carlyle in 2007. Mr. Bannon sits on board of the vast majority of shareholder entities for Carlyle’s China, India and Southeast Asia investments. Mr. Bannon also has experience serving on the board of Carlyle’s portfolio companies globally, where in Greater China he recently served on the board of Sinorgchem. He is based in Hong Kong. Prior to joining Carlyle, Mr. Bannon spent 2 years at Morgan Stanley, leading the legal operations of Morgan Stanley’s Asia (including Japan) Leveraged Finance Group and Securitised Products Group, and several years at Allen & Overy LLP across its London, Hong Kong and Tokyo offices. Mr. Bannon received a LLB from Southampton University, graduating with honours in 1994, and LPC from Guildford College of Law with Commendation in 1994. Mr. Bannon is a Registered Solicitor in the United Kingdom and Registered Foreign Lawyer in Hong Kong and Japan.
Roger TONG
was appointed as Chief Executive Officer on 16 April 2018. Dr. Tong joined AsiaSat as General Manager, Engineering in 2008, and has held positions of increasing technical responsibilities before being promoted to Chief Technical Officer in 2016. Previously, he was employed by Telesat Canada where he worked as a technical consultant and was responsible for various commercial satellite programmes. He has also held various senior management positions at COM DEV International, Allen Telecom Inc. and Mark IV Industries Ltd. Dr. Tong graduated summa cum laude from McMaster University in Ontario, Canada, with a Bachelor's degree in computer engineering and a Master's degree in electrical engineering. He was a gold medalist graduate of an MBA programme at Wilfrid Laurier University in Canada, and holds a doctorate in Business Administration from the University of Newcastle in Australia. He was elected a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering in 2020. He has been serving as a director of the Asia Video Industry Association (AVIA) since 2018.
DING Yucheng
was appointed as NED of the Company on 1 August 2018. Dr. Ding is a Vice Chairman of Sun Culture Foundation. He was an Assistant President of CITIC Securities Company Limited from 1998 to 2004. He was a NED of the Company from 1999 to 2010, and an INED of SEEC Media Group Limited, a Hong Kong listed company from 2005 to 2016. He holds a Master of Business Administration Degree from University of Pittsburgh and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Economics from Tsinghua University.
CHONG Chi Yeung
was appointed as NED on 25 September 2020. Mr. Chong is the Assistant President of CITIC Metal Group Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of CITIC Limited in Hong Kong. Prior to joining CITIC in 2005, he held various financial and managerial positions in both large scale China Stated-owned Enterprises and Hong Kong listed companies. He graduated from California State University, United States with a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master Degree in Business Administration major in Finance in 1994. He has over 19 years of experience in merger and acquisition, corporate restructuring and financial management.
LIN Shang-Chen
was appointed as NED of the Company on 18 August 2022. Mr. Lin is a Director of Carlyle Asia. He focuses on the investment opportunities across the Greater China region. Prior to joining Carlyle, he worked at McKinsey & Company advising companies in technology and consumer sectors. Mr. Lin received a Bachelor of Science degree from Northwestern University.
FAN Jui-Ying
was appointed as NED of the Company on 1 September 2018. Mr. Fan serves as chairman of Asia Digital Media Company that offers news, variety, financial news, travel, food, and music contents on multiple online on-demand and linear platforms. He is also a co-founder and Chairman of Whitesun Partners, a venture capital firm focusing on AI, telecom, and semiconductor related technologies. In addition, Mr. Fan is the Founder and Chairman of Fulin Culture & Art Foundation that devotes to art preservation, restoration, promotion and education.
Mr. Fan serves as board directors at Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (Singapore) PTE Limited, China Network Systems Co. Ltd, Eastern Broadcasting Corporation, Taiwan Adventist Hospital and Taipei Adventist American School.
Mr. Fan was elected as Chairman and President of Eastern Broadcasting Corporation (EBC). Before EBC, Mr. Fan was appointed by Carlyle Group as Vice Chairman and Group CEO of kbro Company, the largest cable television and broadband service provider in Taiwan. Previously, Mr. Fan served as President and CEO of Taiwan Fixed Network Company which he was a co-founder. Mr. Fan was also a co-founder and President of Taiwan Mobile. Prior to Taiwan, Mr. Fan worked at Hutchison Whampoa Group in Hong Kong and Yamada Corporation of Japan. Mr. Fan was trained as an engineer at the University of Southern California and started his career in the aviation industry in the United States.
Marcel R. FENEZ
was appointed INED of the Company on 1 April 2017. Mr. Fenez specialises in providing a wide range of advisory services, including strategy, to boards and management of enterprises operating across the technology, entertainment, media and communication ecosystem. A resident of Hong Kong for over 35 years, Mr. Fenez was a partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers from 1993 to 2015. He was the Global Leader of PricewaterhouseCoopers' Entertainment and Media Practice from 2006 to 2015 and the Leader of the Telecoms, Media and Technology Practice in Hong Kong and China for 20 years. He is a former Director and Chairman of Asia Video Industry Association (AVIA, formerly CASBAA), the industry association promoting the interests of the multi-channel video industry in Asia. He serves on the Boards of a number of emerging technology and media companies in Asia. He is a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales and the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Steven R. LEONARD
was appointed as INED of the Company on 1 April 2017. Mr. Leonard is a technology-industry leader with a wide range of experiences, having played key roles in building several global companies in areas such as Software, Hardware and Services. Although born in the U.S., Mr. Leonard considers himself a member of the larger global community, having lived and worked outside the U.S. for more than 30 years. Mr. Leonard serves as the CEO of Singularity University, a global organisation dedicated to advising Governments, Corporations, and Individuals on understanding and embracing technology advancements in order to bring positive change to communities and countries around the world. Most recently, Mr. Leonard was the Founding CEO of SGInnovate - a private limited company wholly owned by the Singapore Government -- with a mission to help entrepreneurial scientists form and build 'deep tech' companies. Mr. Leonard also served three years as the Executive Deputy Chairman of the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA), a Singapore Government statutory board under the purview of the Ministry of Communications and Information. In that role, he had executive responsibility at the national level for various aspects of the information technology and telecommunications industries in Singapore. Mr. Leonard serves on the advisory boards of a range of universities and organisations in Singapore. Mr. Leonard also serves as an INED at Singapore Post Ltd (SingPost), a global leader in e-commerce logistics, which is listed on Singapore Exchange.
Philana Wai Yin POON
was appointed as INED of the Company on 16 March 2018. Ms. Poon is an INED of Meitu, Inc. (a company listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange). She was also an INED of Forgame Holdings Limited (a company listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange) from September 2013 to May 2018, and an INED of AZ Electronic Materials S.A. (a company listed on the London Stock Exchange) from 2012 to 2014.
With an education background in law, Ms. Poon has around 30 years of post-qualification experience both in-house and in private practice. In 2014, she was named by Asian Legal Business as Hong Kong’s In-House Lawyer of the Year. In 2016, she was named by Asian Legal Business as Hong Kong’s Woman Lawyer of the Year. In 2017, Ms. Poon and her legal and compliance team in The Hong Kong Jockey Club (“HKJC”) was named as In-House Team of the Year (under 50 Lawyers) in Euromoney Legal Media Group’s Asian Women in Business Law Awards.
From 2015 to 2020, Ms. Poon was the executive director of legal and compliance of HKJC. She was a member of HKJC’s board of management as well as the company secretary of HKJC. From 1998 to 2015, Ms. Poon held various senior positions within the PCCW Group including group general counsel and company secretary. She has a wealth of experience in the telecommunications, media and information technology industries, as well as in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, corporate governance and advising on matters relating to the Listing Rules and the Securities & Futures Ordinance. Before joining PCCW Group, Ms. Poon worked in various law firms from 1992 to 1998, including Lovells and Baker & McKenzie. Ms. Poon obtained a doctor of law degree from Cornell University in May 1992 and a bachelor’s degree in commerce from the University of Toronto in November 1989.
